Pink Shirt Day: Friday 17 May

Please bring a gold coin donation and wear all the pink you can!!

On Friday 17th May, ākonga are invited to wear as much pink as possible to turn Horizon into a sea of pink as we stand together to spread aroha, stand up against bullying and raise money to support the Mental Health Foundation to continue to raise awareness about the importance of preventing bullying.

Why is it important that Horizon takes a stand against bullying? Aotearoa has the third highest rate of bullying out of the 36 OECD countries. 32% of students in Aotearoa reported being bullied at least a few times a month. This is not the experience that we want students to have at Horizon.

We are aware some parents have been concerned about bus routes:
1. Changes to an existing route - we have spoken to the bus company and they have assured us they have undertaken significant review before coming to this decision. What they have asked is that we remind parents, if your child catches the bus it is whānau responsibility to ensure that children, especially those of primary age are safely escorted to the bus collection points rather than allowed to walk along the road.

2. With road works on Goodall road, the buses looked into the option of students dismounting / being collected from Mahurangi East road. Due to the lack of room around collection points, it has been decided it is safer for buses to continue coming onto the school site. We are working with AT&T to look at how we can make the passing space safer/wider during bus drop off and collection times in the school day.

We wish to announce Mrs Burnett Bakker's departure from Horizon School late in Term 2.

Burnett has illuminated our Horizon whānau with joy and love leaving a lasting impression on our community. While we will miss her presence among the staff and tamariki we wish her nothing but the best for her future endeavours.

Miss Robin Fraser will be replacing Mrs Bakker as the full-time Room 9 teacher.
__________________________

It is with mixed emotions that I have made this decision. I have realised that I need to make a lifestyle change and prioritise my children, who need me to be more present at home. While I have loved working at Horizon School, I feel the need to devote more time and attention to my family at this important stages of their lives.

I deeply appreciate the understanding and support the school has shown me during this decision-making process.
I want to thank the entire Horizon School community for the guidance, encouragement, and memories I will forever cherish. It has been an honour being a part of the school.

I will work diligently during my remaining time to ensure a smooth transition. I am committed to assisting in any way possible to support my replacement and maintain the continuity of the excellent education that Horizon School provides.
