PRINCIPAL’S WELCOME

What makes Horizon unique

Hello and welcome, Nau Mai, Haere Mai, to Horizon School.

Throughout the school we have dedicated staff who are committed to all students achieving successful outcomes.

With our rich and collaborative and flexible education programmes we ensure that students are engaged, happy and successful in their learning and prepared for the world beyond school. Here at Horizon our mission for all is to “Foster Lifelong Growth in Learners who will demonstrate a Loving Life and a Living Faith, and who are Looking Forward”.

Due to our small size and high quality staff, we know our students well and can support and develop each child as the unique individual they are. Our rangatahi are incredible and demonstrate compassion, kindness and respect for others.

We welcome visitors to the school. If you are looking for a school which has strong values of faith, love and hope and offers child centred, future focussed teaching and learning – please contact us to arrange a tour of the school.

ABOUT HORIZON SCHOOL

Horizon School is a vibrant and inclusive state-integrated primary and secondary school for families in the Rodney District who value our special Christian character.

Owned by the KingsWay Trust in Orewa and supported by the NZ Christian Proprietors’ Trust, our school mission of Loving Life, Living Faith and Looking Forward, and our values, are interwoven with the concepts and information investigated and skills developed in a normal school day.

We focus on inspiring learners to develop both a Love for Life and a Loving Life throughout our learning programmes. We also seek to encourage in the children a Living Faith – that this world is more than matter and that it is held together by a loving God who invites us to join in bringing good to the world. Through our learning programmes, we are actively Looking Forward, in order to best prepare our learners for their futures rather than our pasts and to equip them to contribute to their world both now and in years to come.

Incorporating the New Zealand Curriculum, we focus on the total growth of the developing child, addressing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic welfare. We use an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning and use a wide range of teaching strategies and assessments to cater for the diverse needs of our learners.
